2015 ASM FOUNDATION

PACESETTER AWARD

The Forging Foundation was established in 1961 by the leaders of the Forging Industry Association to foster forging

education and technology development in engineering schools and research universities. Sponsorship of ASM’s Mate-

rials Camps for Teachers has provided the opportunity to reach to a younger audience with whom the forging supply

chain story can be shared.

In addition to the financial support, each teacher participant receives a set ofmaterials for use back in their classrooms – the

‘Forge Your Future’ bag contains print and electronic materials covering the forging process and careers in the industry.

Industry volunteers also get involved in local camp activities by making brief, informal presentations typically over

lunch on—Metals Day—and share where forgings are found and how it applies to daily life.

Connections made at the camps have led to industry volunteers being invited to make classroom presentations and

organize plant tours for student field trips. All building relationships between forging producers and supplier compa-

nies’ future workforce pipeline.
